Windows Oozing History

I am always amazed at the amount of beautiful windows that exist on old buildings in Portugal but I also feel saddened at the way some of them have been left to deteriorate over the years.

They come in all shapes and sizes and are made from an assortment of materials, each oozing untold stories…   The variety of different styles of buildings that they are found on is never ending:   from castles, churches and chapels, to noble manor houses and abandoned ruins, as well as quinta farm houses and typically styled homes from the various regions around Portugal.

When going past them, I just cannot resist stopping and trying to imagine all the different events that these windows have lived through.   They withstand decades and centuries to still be standing in their glory.

Below are a few that I have taken around the north of Portugal.

I love the variety of windows you can find in Portugal. I have a picture made with postcards of windows and doors of the region we used to live in in Portugal (Beira Alta). Lovely blog, I came via Julie Dawn Fox´s blog.
